Smiles all round at end of term FUEL family fun day

Last Saturday 15th July, we were treated to glorious afternoon sunshine for our annual end of term family fun day.  In total, we had 112 parents and children out on the golf course; we LOVE that and it was awesome to see so many families together having fun.  Post golf, children were treated to burger and chips plus a putting competition with a parents prize also; it was in fact the parents competition that got slightly heated with some egos on display

fun day 17 picOut on the course, we had a 9 and 5 hole competition, with 3 tee length options for the 5 hole competition to ensure that each child was playing a fun length course.  In the 9 hole category, Sam McIntyre was 2nd with a nett score or 31 and Aaron England won, scoring a nett 29.  I’m not sure the boys were happy with the Titleist DT Solo golf ball prize – at 10 years old, it’s Pro V1 or nothing right?!  The nearest the pin was won by Regan Gray and longest drive Ben Waite – well done boys!

In the 5 hole category, Kyson Shilleto took 3rd with a score of 22 around the 5 hole course.  2nd place was taken by Henry Smith (19) who was just pipped by younger brother Seth who scored an impressive 18 shots.

On the putting green, it did get heated! Simon Utley was winning our nearest to the hole parents prize, until Steve Evans holed out from 29.4.1730 foot, welcomed by huge cheers and excitement around the green.  It was a similar story for Charlie Wood, who was winning all the way but was just pipped by Oliver Pettigrew who hit a great putt to around 2 foot.  In the ‘bigger kids’ category, it was Jake Wallis who took the prize.  Our 2nd putting competition was a 4 hole challenge – Billy and Harry Strugeon shared first prize in the ‘big kids’ category and Alex Taylor and Eddie Claughton shared the other category prize.  For the parents, it was Jamie Sturgeon and Simon Utley who took home the Titleist DT Solo golf.

Deserving a mention also is Narayn Nair who won the 9 hole competition on Saturday July 8th, shooting an impressive nett score of 30 and taking the rewards for some great play in the last 6 weeks.

As with last year, the most pleasing part of the day was to get such a huge amount of children and parents together, all enjoying this great sport and competing with great attitude, behaviour and smiles – please click here to see a full gallery of photos from the event.
